2023 Board of Directors
OVERVIEW OF THE NOMINATIONS PROCESS
The Anusara School of Hatha Yoga’s Board of Directors is seeking four (4) new Directors for the Board. The three-year term starts on January 1, 2023, and ends on December 31, 2025.
All members of the Anusara School of Hatha Yoga’s Board of Directors serve three-year terms. Since two (2) Board members’ terms end in December 2022, and two (2) board members need to step down from their positions for personal reasons, there will be four (4) openings on the Board starting in January 2023.
Serving on the Board is a wonderful way to make your voice heard, share your knowledge and expertise, serve in a leadership role and learn about many interesting areas related to the governance of an international nonprofit yoga school.
Who is eligible to serve on the Board?
As a teacher-led school, the Board will first consider Anusara teachers with a current license. Depending on the applicant’s qualifications, the Board will also seriously consider graduates of an Anusara teacher training who are not licensed.
What does the Board need in terms of specific skills?
Anyone with a passion for collaboration, innovation, excellence, and a love of Anusara Yoga is invited to apply.
This year, the Board hopes to identify individuals with marketing, financial management, and legal and/or fundraising skills.
If I am interested in serving on the Board, how do I apply?
If you cannot complete the application online, you may download it and email it to Aline Franco Flores, the School’s Administrative Associate, at information@anusarayoga.com
You are invited to enclose a résumé if you would like the Nominating Committee to have additional information when considering your application.
When is the deadline to apply?
The deadline to apply is July 15, 2022.
Who decides who is selected?
The Board of Directors’ Nominating Committee will recommend new Directors to the current Board of Directors. The current Board of Directors will make the final decision.
Nominating Committee members include:
- Board members
- Letizzia Wastavino (Europe)
- Martin Svitek (Europe)
- Laura Casini (Europe)
- Beatriz Almazan (Latin America)
- Kim Friedman (USA), the School’s Director of Operations
The Nominating Committee will look for diversity of geographic representation and a mix of skills.
What does the Board of Directors do?
As a teacher-led school, the Board plays a very important role in determining the School’s future. It is responsible for:
- Representing Anusara yoga in their communities with pride and integrity
- Ensuring the School’s financial sustainability through fundraising and stewardship of the School’s resources
- Hiring and providing oversight of the Director of Operations
- Establishing guiding principles and policies
To carry out its work and support the Operations Team (paid staff and volunteers), the Board has three standing committees:
- Fundraising
- Policy
- Communications
New Directors will be asked to serve on at least one of these committees, depending on their skills and preferences.
What can I expect as a Board member?
New Directors will serve a 3-year term starting January 1, 2023. Through your work on the Board, you will have a unique opportunity to work together with other Anusara teachers, students and friends to direct the vision, mission, and core values of the organization and the global Anusara community.
A typical month requires approximately 8 – 10 hours of work, including:
- A 2-hour Board meeting
- A 1½-2 hour Committee meeting
- 4 hours of project-based Committee work
“Being a Board Member has proven the interconnectedness between us all. The Board is a breathing example of the deeper connection between all beings–that our unity supports our diversity. I have learned so much about our school by serving on the Board. It is a great way to gain a holistic perspective on how the school is performing while making my personal contribution to the school’s sustainability. The members that I have served with have been nothing less than a huge breath of sweet, refreshing air. The members embody the teachings of Yoga and bring the spirit of Anusara to every Board meeting even in the occasion of disagreements (because they do occur). It’s been an honor to serve the school by serving on the board and knowing that my voice has been a part of how the school operates in meeting its visions and goals. My experience serving on the board will remain with me as one of the highlights of my life.”
