100-hour Anusara Teacher Training in Sydney with Cassandra Missio
February 3, 2019 - May 19, 2019
‘Your work is your love made visible.’
– Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
Earth and Sky Yoga Studio is offering a comprehensive 200–hour teacher
training program starting September 2018. Our teacher training draws on the
Anusara yoga method. Anusara is an elegant yet simple approach to hatha
yoga with a strong focus on alignment. Through our teacher training you will
learn clear, safe and applicable principles of alignment. Our course will
support your ability to teach to a wide variety of bodies, adapting your
classes to accommodate students of differing abilities and capabilities in a
This is a part-time course and we encourage students from all yogic
backgrounds to apply.
To be a great teacher, we believe that it is essential to know what it is to be
a student first and foremost and learn how to teach from this place.
With this in mind, our teacher training takes place in two parts:
Immersions: a series of 8 weekend workshops. These immersions are an
opportunity to deepen your understanding of the philosophy, anatomy and
practice of yoga and will give you a solid working knowledge and strong
foundation of the basic principles and practice of Anusara yoga. In the
immersion we have the opportunity to form a kula (community of the heart)
to delve deeply into the key elements of the Anusara yoga teachings.
Working together you will feel how an open heart and inspired
biomechanics can open possibilities in your practice and in your life.
Teaching Practicum: this component of our training takes place over 15
consecutive Sundays starting in February 2019 and covers the practicum of
Upon completion of this course you will be eligible to register with Yoga
Alliance as a 200-hr yoga teacher which gives you eligibility for insurance
cover to teach – essential for all yoga teachers.
Graduates of our teacher training program are given priority when teaching
opportunities arise at Earth and Sky Yoga Studio.
It’s our belief that you cannot teach without an established personal
practice. Our immersions will help you develop and refine your own
practice. Learn also how to incorporate the practical tools from the yoga
tradition into your daily life.
The workshops cover:
54 hours of Anusara asana practice and discussion of methodology
30 hours of philosophy
9 hours of pranayama and meditation

Cassandra first came to yoga in her early twenties whilst travelling. She knew after her first class that she had
stumbled upon a very powerful and potent
discipline that left her feeling grounded and clear. She has been teaching
yoga for over 15 years and began her training in 2002 by undertaking a
traditional teacher mentoring apprenticeship at The Art of Yoga in Summer
Hill. This supported the development of her daily yoga and meditation
practice, and gave her an opportunity to assist in class and on retreat.
Through her mentorship she developed the fundamental principles of her
She has continued to develop her practice and teaching skills studying on
numerous occasions with the founder of Anusara yoga, John Friend and
many of his senior teachers. She has studied regularly with meditation and
philosophy teacher Carlos Pomeda and Yoga Therapist Doug Kellar.
After many years of refining her teaching, Cassandra became a certified
Anusara teacher in 2009. She teaches a wide range of classes from
beginners to advanced as well as more specialised restorative and prenatal
classes. She has many dedicated students who have been attending her
classes for over 10 years. She has also established a busy private practice
and teaches many one-on-one yoga therapy sessions per week.
She is inspired to offer teacher training at Earth and Sky Yoga Studio as her
part in helping maintain high standards and integrity in the teaching of
In the Anusara tradition, Cassandra’s teaching style weaves precise biomechanical
alignment and heart centred philosophy with the intent to offer
an experience of freedom and lightness to the body and the heart!
For more than 20 years Shane has been committed to
a lifelong journey of discovering and understanding
the human condition through the lens of Chinese
medicine. Shane began his remedial massage practice
in 1996 and completed his Chinese medicine training in 2006. He has been
operating his own practice since that time. Shane brings his wealth of
experience, knowledge and passion of the human anatomy and physiology
to the ESYS teacher training. His lectures will introduce students to the basics
of functional anatomy and its application to asana and the biomechanic
alignment principles of Anusara yoga.
Christine’s passion for the study of Indian philosophic
traditions had its beginnings in Anusara yoga in 2001.
Although she had studied Western philosophy and
found it intellectually stimulating, it was only when she
discovered the refined and potent gifts of the Tantras,
and realised that the hatha yoga she had been practicing for years had its
roots in classical Tantric philosophy, that she was inspired to dive into both
the Tantric texts and the wider textual sources of yoga. When Christine met
former monk and now global teacher Carlos Pomeda in 2005 she knew she
had met her teacher. She has studied with Carlos at every opportunity since
then. His wise, generous and compassionate teaching has illuminated her
own teaching and given her the tools and direction to impart the wisdom of
these texts to others.
Charumati has several decades experience as a
meditation teacher and has taught meditation in
schools and workplaces and facilitated weekend
retreats and workshops for families and children. She is a
regular mediation teacher at the Sydney Siddha Yoga
Ashram in Dulwich Hill. Charumati will share with us her
experience of meditation and its place in yoga

BENEFITS OF OUR TEACHER TRAINING
Our teacher training is the only Anusara teacher training offered in Sydney.
At Earth and Sky Yoga Studio the practical element of teacher training is
incorporated into the program explicitly through the immersion workshops.
The biomechanic alignment principles of Anusara yoga (Universal Principles
of Alignment™) are clearly woven into the immersions giving you an
opportunity to apply these principles in your personal practice and support
your understanding of these principles for teaching purposes.
The structure of our teacher training program – the immersions followed by
the teaching practicum component – gives you the experience of a more
advanced practice first, along with the experience of extensive pranayama
and meditation and plenty of time for what you have learned to be
Through your experience with the immersions you start your training at the
receiving end of teaching. This will ground your teacher training in an
understanding of what it is to be a committed student. This format supports
you to develop and deepen your own personal practice and
understanding of yoga which will then inform the development of your own
The break between the two stages is also a vital element of our training
giving you pause to really connect with and process all that you have
learned in the immersions before taking those teachings and applying them
in a teacher training context. Bringing what you’ve learned and
experienced in stage one you will learn to teach from a place of

Anusara yoga teachers are committed to creating an uplifting and
empowering experience for every student in class. They inspire
lightheartedness and playfulness with a joyful creativity that is the nature of
the Anusara yoga practice.
A key element in an Anusara yoga class is a heart theme, a virtue. The
theme is skilfully woven through the breath and postural instructions of the
asana (poses) effectively creating the attitudinal expression of the poses
from the ‘inside out’. The heart quality cultivates the connection between
the physical yoga poses and the greater spiritual purposes of yogic

‘I love Cassandra and love this studio. I practiced a bit with Cassandra
many years back and was lucky enough to do my Anusara immersion with
her which was amazing! If you live in the inner west of Sydney you should
definitely visit this studio. Thanks so much Cassandra!’
– Kelly Ryan, Director of Yoga Vidya, Wollongong
‘Cassandra is a remarkable teacher. She is fresh and fun at every class. How
does she do that? She takes her yoga practice, however, very seriously. Her
understanding of the postures, alignments and deeper purpose of yoga
within our lives, is very uplifting. I feel grateful to attend her classes and think
Sydney is lucky to have her.’
