Meet the School’s Amazing Staff!

By Kim Friedman

Certified Anusara® Yoga Teacher, Operations Team Coordinator

As Operations Team Coordinator for the Anusara School of Hatha Yoga, I am responsible for the School’s daily operations. As such, I:

  • Provide coordination among the numerous projects and ongoing activities related to marketing, fundraising, professional development, education, events, corporate sponsorships, teacher trainings, continuing education and licensing

  • Provide direction to the Operations Team (paid and volunteer) on key issues affecting the School’s growth and strategic direction

  • Oversee implementation of policies approved by the Board of Directors, such as the Data Privacy Policy and Intellectual Property Policy

  • Monitor the School’s budget to ensure we remain financially stable

I feel very blessed to work with a knowledgeable, smart, committed and creative paid staff! Each staff member does so much to keep Anusara yoga growing around the world and support our amazing teachers. It is my pleasure to introduce the School’s paid staff (in alphabetical order by last name):

Cara Zaruba Butler, Director of Professional Development: After a year and a half with the Anusara School of Hatha Yoga, Cara stepped down on June 19 to take a new job in a different field. Cara was instrumental in further professionalizing our School, maintaining high standards while simplifying the application process and providing support to individual teachers in the process of becoming licensed. We will miss you! Thank you, Cara!

On June 29, Certified teacher Jeannine Plaiche from Canada began as Interim Director of Professional Development. She will remain in this position through the end of December 2020. I will conduct an open search for the position this fall. Jeannine brings a deep commitment to Anusara yoga, international teaching experience and a strong professional background to this position. Welcome Jeannine!

Ory Brown, Licensing Specialist: Ory handles all aspects of licensing and teacher training registration. With almost 900 licensed teachers spread out around the world, this position requires strong organizational and communication skills and an ability to move easily between the big picture and the details. Sarah Christiansen, Online Store Manager: Sarah handles all aspects of manual orders. She is overseeing implementation of our new system for ordering manuals–an outgrowth of the School’s new intellectual property policy (which can be found in the Teachers’ Lounge). Questions? Contact Sarah at

Aline Franco Flores, Administrative Associate: Aline fields inquiries from all over the world, supports Country Coordinators (especially those in Spanish-speaking countries), answers teachers’ questions about the MindBody Online account and provides me with indispensable administrative support (without which I would not be able to do my job in 20 hours a week). Questions? Contact Aline at or on WhatsApp: +52 998 165 1224

Beth Stelz, Bookkeeper: Beth works closely with Aat Bos, Treasurer of the Board of Directors, to ensure the School’s finances are in order. She processes all income that comes into the School and is responsible for all payments. Because of her quick action, the School received a forgivable loan from the United States government that covered the School’s payroll expenses for May and June. Questions? Contact Beth at
