Meet Your Mentor – Alessandra Pergreffi
Meet Your Mentor, Alessandra Pergreffi
Tell us a little about yourself
I’m Alessandra, and I deeply love yoga!
I live in Bologna, a beautiful city in the north of Italy. I have been a Certified Anusara Yoga teacher since 2017 with great enthusiasm for life, love, and psychophysical balance.
I love Anusara yoga because it provides the opportunity to combine a playful tone with a deep investigation into the nature of being, to bring the ancient wisdom teachings into the practice of yoga and thus into modern life.
My passion for teaching the art and science of yoga is continually fueled by the study of philosophy and the latest research in this discipline.
With over 20 years of experience, I live yoga as a field of action to learn more and more about the power of the breath, the mindful movement of the body, and the alignment of the mind.
Why did you choose to become a Mentor?
I chose to become a Mentor to bring my experience, my creativity and my continuous experimentation into play, but also to remind myself and the people practicing with me that the secret of serenity and freedom dwells in us.
Tell us about your Mentoring Session.
The main reason I took up yoga in 1991 was because I realized at the end of the day that my diaphragm was blocked and I was breathing incorrectly. Since then I have delved into the wonderful world of breath, trying to grasp its more magical side.
This Mentoring Session is an opportunity to share my experience and bring you into the pranayama dimension.
What is your inspiring message for our members?
We have this fantastic practice available to us. Let us try to enjoy it fully and honor it, to find stillness in every moment of our lives.
I greet you all with sutra 1.34 of Patanjali’s Yoga Sūtra:
pracchardanavidhāraṇābhyāṃ vā prāṇasya 1.34
[The mind may] also [be calmed] by exhaling and retaining the breath.
