What do you love most about Anusara Yoga?

What I appreciate most about Anusara Yoga is how clearly and seamlessly the philosophy translates into the here and now. I experience the physical manifestation of the Tantric foundation of this practice not only in my physical asana practice but in my interactions with the world, through my students, my patients, and beyond. It is so easy to see the application of the UPAs to every task and thought I have: am I exhibiting too much Muscular Energy now? Should I take a pause and settle into First Principle? Am I prepared enough to reach out and expand into the role/relationship/pose with Organic Energy? The philosophy is so applicable which makes it practical and therefore enmeshed with the way I live my life. To have these physical and meditative techniques to practice manifesting the philosophy is truly a gift. The other reason I love Anusara is that the great teachers I have met in my 20+ year yoga life have been Anusara-affiliated in some way. The teachers who have inspired me and make me think, “I want to teach like them someday” or “I want to live in the world like they do someday” have been part of the Anusara community.

Why do you teach Anusara yoga?

I teach Anusara yoga because of it’s applicability to life in a broad sense, and if someone is looking for a way to go beyond doing asana just for the sake of physical health (which is a great reason to start) I want to be there to help them see how this philosophy is interwoven into the fabric of our lives. Like cotton, but better.

Why do you license with Anusara?

I license with Anusara because the school deserves to be supported based on its offerings to the broader yoga (and non-yoga) community. This is the most applicable, most thoughtfully designed method of practice out there and I am proud to be a part of the community.
