If you choose not to provide information. Some information is required. Without it, we cannot process

We use your information to:

  • Operate the website, your account and the Members' Area

  • Deliver courses, online programs, videos, events and retreats you sign up for

  • Process purchases, membership plans, licenses and donations, and send receipts and invoices

  • Maintain our public directories of teachers, trainers, specialists and affiliated studios

  • Respond to questions, applications and support requests

  • Send newsletters and updates, as described in Email communications

  • Understand how the site is used, so we can improve it

  • Keep the site secure, prevent fraud and meet our legal and tax obligations as a nonprofit

Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on: performing our agreement with you (for example, delivering a course you bought); your consent (for example, marketing email and non-essential cookies); our legitimate interests in running and improving our programs; and compliance with legal obligations. We never sell or rent your personal information.

Cookies and similar technologies

Our site runs on Wix, which places cookies and similar technologies on your device. We use them for:

  • Essential functions: keeping you logged in, securing the site, remembering your cart and processing checkout. These cannot be turned off.

  • Analytics: measuring visits and site performance so we can improve the site.

  • Embedded content: playing videos and showing content from services such as YouTube or social media, which may set their own cookies.

Where required by law, we ask for your consent before using non-essential cookies. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may stop working. Wix explains its cookies in its cookie information page.

Email communications

We send newsletters, including Anusara Sadhana, the Anusara Bulletin, and local-language newsletters from our Country Coordinators, through Constant Contact, a third-party email service. Constant Contact stores our mailing lists and sends our emails on our behalf, and may not use your information for its own marketing. See the Constant Contact Privacy Statement.

Our emails may contain tracking pixels and tracked links that show whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. You can limit this by turning off image loading in your email program.

Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing from newsletters does not stop transactional messages, such as receipts, course access details or account notices.

Payments and donations

Purchases, membership plans, course enrollments, event tickets and donations are processed through Wix's checkout and the payment processors connected to it. License applications and renewals are paid through MindBody Online. Your full card number is handled by those processors and is never stored by Anusara. We receive limited details, such as your name, the amount, the last four digits of the card and the transaction status.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we keep donation records as required for tax and reporting purposes.

Service providers

We use trusted service providers to run our programs. They process personal information only on our behalf, under our instructions and with appropriate safeguards, and may not use it for their own purposes. They fall into these categories, with our main providers named as examples:

  • Email communications, such as Constant Contact

  • Online meetings and live classes, such as Zoom

We may add or change providers as our programs grow. Any new provider will fall within these categories and be held to the same standards. You can ask us for a current list of providers at any time.

Photos and recordings

We may take photos and videos at School-sponsored events and record some online sessions. We obtain photo and video releases for School-sponsored events, and we use these images to share and promote Anusara's work. If you prefer not to appear, tell the event organizer or contact us.

Teachers who post photos or videos of their own events on our website are responsible for having the
necessary permissions from the people shown.

If you use our site from outside the United States, including the European Union, United Kingdom or Latin America, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, with safeguards required by applicable law, such as standard contractual clauses.

Some international programs, such as Samavesha, our annual international festival, require sharing registration details with organizers and venues in the host country.

Retention and security

Retention. We keep personal information for as long as your account, membership or subscription is active, and afterward only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy. Financial and donation records are kept as required by law, and we may keep other information when needed to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes. Our payment providers keep encrypted payment data under their own retention rules. If you unsubscribe from email, we keep your address on a suppression list so we do not email you again.

Only a small number of people can access teachers' and members' personal data, and each of them has signed a confidentiality agreement.
