Have you ever asked yourself:

  • How can I fulfill my mission and vision as a yoga teacher–or even develop them?
  • How can I establish a strong teacher brand that will fully represent my deepest convictions?
  • How do yoga teachers communicate who they truly are on social media to their audience and to new followers?

Here are 5 easy steps to “market your authentic Self”:

  1. Help, don’t sell:

You are a master in your field? A true knowledge holder? Then go for it! How can your expertise make people’s life easier or better? Find out what your students need and respond to that. Students will be attracted to what you have to give (your knowledge) when they learn how your expertise will help them.  So share your knowledge. It is easy as that.

  1. Check your Internet Self:

People will talk or learn about you via social media. The first thing they do is pick up their phone to find out more about you. Be prepared. Even if you do not have a website, there is tons of information about you in the cloud. “Groom” your database; be sure that images, bios and general information about your work are aligned with your highest Self and your inner Truth.

  1. Create your authentic Internet island:

People often complain that they need a website. I created my first website for my yoga studio yogatribe.de in 3 hours, just before its opening! I was clear on the content I wanted to share; everything flowed from there.

Be sure to create your own content that reflects your preferences in terms of colors, images and written texts. People will quickly start to recognize you because of your personal point of view on yoga. It is easy to use online editors, which have lots of ready-made templates. And the best: It’s FUN to create content because you will see your ideas becoming tangible on your website!

  1. Use your name as your trademark:

I often see people using fun metaphors on social media. However, think of how you introduce yourself to strangers (aka new students) with fun metaphors. Consider how people can tag you in a post when they liked your class or studio. Use your name; if it is already taken, add “yoga.”  Be your authentic Self, not a metaphor or cartoon on social media. Students love teachers who are real, reliable and professional.

  1. Create your own content:

To add value to your brand, think about creating your own content. See yourself as an expert in your field. Your experience is yours; no one can deny it!  Find a series of related subjects in the same field. Either write a blog or create some nice images or a video.  If you don’t know how to do this, find someone with whom you can collaborate. Consider offering them free yoga classes in exchange for their help. That makes things much easier. I have had dozens of collaborators in exchange for yoga. Remember: Good enough is the new perfect. Don’t procrastinate–start today with the first step. There are students waiting for what you have to offer them!

This October the Anusara School of Hatha Yoga will launch an online marketing course called “How to Market your Authentic Self,” which I will teach. The course is designed for teachers (and students who will become teachers) who want to learn more about the topics above. The course will help yoga teachers learn how to grow their brand and business so they can focus on their sadhana.

Together we will discover loads of useful and easy-to-use tools to market your authentic Self. I will keep it playful and joyful! It is definitely fun to work on how to present yourself – ready for the world to discover. Find your innermost values and truth to share with the world.

Handouts, exercises and material will be provided for each webinar to support you in your journey to discover your own teacher’s voice. I am thrilled and can’t wait to start this course with you!
