AAT (ADRIAAN) BOS has been an Elements teacher since 2016. He lives in Voorburg, The Netherlands, where he is pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration. As a project manager, he has financial expertise, and experience in budgeting and controlling the financials for large projects. He has managed contracts and contractors, and has carried out audits. He also has managed large teams. During their interview, Deb Payne found him humble and excited to share his financial skills with ASHY. He attended Samavesha 2017 where he demonstrated the ability to work cross-region and cross-culture and keep the group on task. E-mail – email@example.com
From Rome, Italy, LAURA CASINI has practiced Anusara yoga since 2001 and is an Anusara-Inspired teacher. She has organized immersions and teacher trainings in Rome and opened an Anusara-affiliated studio, Spazio Vitale four years ago. As a studio owner employing ten teachers, she has experience in human resources, marketing and management. Previously, she planned High Fashion shows and was a press officer. She wrote, “I owe my life to this yoga method and the gratitude pours out from my heart with such potency and vibrancy that I cannot imagine myself in any other style of yoga. Anusara for me is not only a method but mainly a way of conducting myself into daily life. CECILE GAYET lives in the French Alps and has been an Elements teacher for two years. She holds a master’s degree in International Business from London South Bank University with a major in management from INSEEC Graduate Business School in France and a minor in advertising from Berkeley University in California. She brings international consulting experience to the Board through her work in strategic planning and implementation of large-scale projects for international corporations (Ericsson, Nike, Hempel), as well as a marketing and fundraising experience in the delivery of major events (Barclays European Leg of miles Ahead, Higher Gospel Show) for UNICEF Comité de Paris in France. She has been serving as a Board Member for a mutual and cooperative bank, Credit Mutuel and is excited to join ASHY’s Board of Directors. She wrote : ”’As an advocate of good governance, it is particularly rewarding to be representing an organization like ASHY whose mission, vision and values deeply resonate with my beliefs. JOHN SEELYE has practiced what was to become Anusara yoga since before it was founded (1996) and has been a Certified Teacher since 2003. He owns One Ocean Yoga Center in Bridgehampton New York USA, where he manages a team of teachers, invites guest presenters and markets the studio and its events. He has studies psychology, philosophy, religion, cultural anthropology, he is fascinated with human potential: physically, mentally, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually and parapsychologically. He says, “In yoga, I found that there has been this inquiry for multiple millennia. In Anusara and my Siddha yoga practices, I have found the framework that upholds this diverse, rich and full exploration into the nature of our existence in all of these various levels.” He currently is serving ASHY as a Regional Representative. GIOVANNI NIGRIS has obtained a diploma in classical/humanistic studies, graduated in international law and specialized in international relations, anthropology and cultural differences. He has experience as a legal advisor, manager, management consulting professional, lecturer, trainer, coach and professional mediator. During his studies and the following professional experience, his focus has been on intercultural cooperation and cooperative negotiation, through which he gained a deep commitment to decision-making by consensus and conflict resiliency certified by the qualification as professional mediator recognized by the Italian Ministry of Justice. Currently, he is active in a nonprofit organization focused on self-development through emotional intelligence. He is undertaking Anusara’s Teacher Training. E-mail – email@example.com
Board Member returning for 2018
ROYCE BATTLEMAN, from West Harrison, New York, has been a student of Anusara yoga for more than 13 years. She says, “I have worked hard to bring my life into alignment with the values I believe to be at the core of the Anusara philosophy, including an appreciation of the diving spirit that lives in everyone and a desire to bring grace to all my activities”. A Harvard-trained lawyer, she has been with HBO for 20 years. She is also the creator of www.zenunderten.com which uses creative ways to introduce the benefits of yoga and mindfulness/meditation practices to school-aged students. Royce has also served on the Board of Directors for the non-profit Bloomington School of Music.
BENJAMIN FINNERTY is a Certified Anusara teacher in Shanghai, China. He has been serving on ASHY’s Steering Committee, which will be helpful in the transition. He brings experience of working with non-profit groups and on many committees. He has been building Anusara in China since 2008. China’s growth is evidenced by for the largest number of Elements teachers in any region of the world. He has been studying leadership development for the past several years.
You may recognize DESIREE EASTHAM because of her many posts on Facebook for ASHY. An Anusara-Inspired teacher, she has been leading the social media presence for the School. She says, “I first read about Anusara Yoga in a 2004 Yoga Journal article and was mesmerized by the beautiful forms of the Anusara yogini. She was lit up from the inside and it showed in the smile on her face and in every cell.” She serves on the Board of Whole Life Whole Yoga, a non-profit organization that brings yoga to special groups with physical challenges and developmental disabilities.
ADOLFO FERNANDEZ SAURI is an Anusara-Inspired teacher who has owned a yoga studio in Mexico City for several years. He is one of four incorporators (along with Doc Savage, Peter Goodman and Alessandra di Prampero) listed on ASHY’s new Articles of Incorporation. Consequently, he is familiar with how the new non-profit is intended to work. He told us, “ASHY is leading us to be more authentic humans. That’s what I think the world needs the most.” He has recently moved to New Jersey, USA, shortly where he will network with many Anusara yogis and yoginis.
CHRISTINA FU is a dedicated student of Anusara yoga in Shanghai, China. She volunteers for ASHY, helps to translate the website into Chinese and handles ASHY’s finances in China. She has fundraising experience through her service to a non- governmental association to support pupils in a poor area of China. She gained policy-setting experience while working at Pure Apparel and Givenchy Cosmetics. Her marketing expertise was built through work as Advertising Director and Regional Sales Manager at Hachette Filipacchi Media China, Trade Marketing Management at LVMH Fragrance Brand and China Marketing Manager for Pure Apparel. She studied public relations at Shenzhen University and worked in PR at an associate company of Hill & Knowlton.
MARIA GRAZIA ORLANDO, an Anusara-Inspired teacher in Albinea (RE), Italy, was nominated by 22 people! Some of her nominators’ accolades included, “She has a clear heart and is in service of love and greater community,” “She is an amazing organizer and a very reliable person…” “…able to make people work together successfully.” She has been instrumental in building the Italian kula (community of the heart) through teacher gatherings, translation of teacher training manuals and development of the Italian website. Through her work starting up a business, she has human resources management experience.
AIDA PONCE DEL CASTILLO is a student in teacher training from Tervuren, Belgium. Born in Mexico, she has a PhD in law and is working on monitoring European Union legislation in health and safety as head of her department in a European Research Institute. She brings the skills of financial management, governance, human resources development, policy development, conflict resolution and leadership development to the ASHY Board.
LETIZZIA WASTAVINO is an Anusara-inspired teacher born in Chile, currently living in Vienna, Austria, where she is the Austria country coordinator for ASHY. She speaks English, Spanish and a little bit of German and has lived in four countries. She has fundraising and financial management experiences on a Board of Directors for a kindergarten. As a co-owner of a wellness studio, she has expertise in marketing and public relations.
