Dear Anusara Teacher,

As a licensed Anusara teacher, you have committed to uphold high standards of integrity and alignment with Anusara’s principles and methods and our shared vision. You have invested in your own growth, personally and professionally, through the attainment of your license, continuing education and your teachings. Each year you reiterate your commitment and to honor the high value of your efforts, your investments, when you sign your license and submit your licensing fees.  From this foundation and as a teacher-led school, we all share the desire to develop, grow and flourish as the best version of ourselves as teachers, leaders and sentient beings.

To protect this investment and vision for all current and future licensed teachers, the Anusara School of Hatha Yoga’s Board of Directors adopted an Intellectual Property policy in July 2020. Its purpose is “to help Anusara flourish by upholding the beauty, intelligence and integrity of the Anusara method and its principles to promote the School’s vision, mission and core values.”

The policy has five goals:

• Enhance the desirability of sharing the teachings of Anusara yoga worldwide

• Protect the School’s intellectual property and Anusara teachers who have invested in their professional development

• Maintain the integrity of the value of an Anusara license and the education that it reflects

• Streamline the process by which the School distributed its manuals and other intellectual property to licensed Anusara teachers

• Ensure the school is remunerated for use of its intellectual property

Please review the policy as it may change the way you purchase manuals and advertise your Anusara credentials.

The policy also sets forth a process to encourage non-licensed teachers who want to teach Anusara yoga to get the appropriate training so they can license; relicense; or refrain from claiming they are an Anusara teacher.To help us uphold the intellectual property policy, we have asked Certified teacher Gail Corvette to be our first Intellectual Property Guardian. Those of you who know her will likely agree that she will be able to balance the action of being both firm and kind.

Here’s where you come in: If you have a concern about the Anusara name or trademarks (such as Universal Principles of Alignment) being used by non-licensed teachers or posted on the Internet, please complete this short form. Gail will follow up with you as the process proceeds. Anonymous tips are OK, too.
