Yoga Bio

Gail’s students say her classes are nourishing, positive, playful and intelligently paced. Yoga has led Gail on amazing journey from her head to her heart. She was drawn to her teacher Jackie Prete for her precise alignment cues but soon learned of yoga’s teachings in Jackie’s classes and her Anusara Immersion. Gail took another Immersion with Jackie and Rudrani Farbman-Brown and their 200-hour teacher training in 2005. She taught yoga in New York and Hong Kong before following her heart and retiring to her husband David’s hometown of Charleston in 2008 after a 25-year career in human resources consulting. She became a Certified Anusara Teacher in 2015 and holds the e-RYT-500 designation with The Yoga Alliance.
.
Her Self-inquiry practice has deepened through meditation, yoga philosophy studies, spiritual programs and retreats. It also showed her that yoga’s profound impact on her recovery from alcoholism (she has been sober since 1995) is a gift to share with others. She shared the healing powers to yoga with patients at the county rehab center from 2011-2020, has presented at retreats, conventions and in fundraisers and private settings. She introduced Y12SR (Yoga of 12-Step Recovery) public classes to Charleston in April 2017. As an Anusara Subject Matter Specialist on Addiction Recovery, she developed the elective module in the Anusara Advanced Teacher Training to help teachers serve people in recovery from their own on another’s addictions and to increase teachers’ sensitivity to addicts who may be in their public classes. She teaches on YogaVibes.com.
.
She currently teaches public classes at The MUSC Wellness Center, has taught in the corporate setting with GO Interactive Wellness and works with private clients and special groups (such as young adults on the autism spectrum, cancer patients and survivors (for which she earned the Yoga4Cancer certification), brain trauma patients, members of her Methodist Church, and has even taught a college football team).

Gail loves being a part of the ASHY Kula and was the first chair of its Nominating Committee and is the School’s Intellectual Property Guardian.

What do you love most about Anusara Yoga?

I love the embodiment of the practice of Anusara Yoga. It goes way beyond the typical “yoga as exercise” and truly teaches the yoking of body, mind and spirit through our Tantric philosophy, heart qualities and Universal Principles of Alignment. I am so happy to be a part of the supportive and loving global Anusara kula–the community of the heart.

Why do you teach Anusara yoga?

I teach to share my love of this practice.

Why do you license with Anusara?

To maintain the integrity of the teachings. Since all of my training has been with Anusara, I would not feel right teaching this without giving back and supporting the school.

I also license to keep learning from other teachers and growing.
